G Home was selected to exhibit The Missing Sherds at Alcova Miami 2024, one of the world’s leading platforms for collectible, experimental, and research-driven contemporary design. Hosted during Miami Art Week, Alcova brings together emerging and established designers whose work explores new relationships between materials, craftsmanship, and innovation.
The Missing Sherds reintroduces gourds into the history of design by asking a simple question: What if one of humanity’s earliest functional materials had survived in the archaeological record alongside ceramics? The exhibition presented contemporary vessels, lamps, incense holders, and everyday objects crafted from gourds, drawing attention to a material that has quietly shaped human civilization for thousands of years yet rarely remains preserved because of its organic nature.
Inspired by the philosophy of Japanese Kintsugi, the project explored restoration, memory, and the enduring relationship between people and natural materials. Rather than treating gourds as historical artifacts, The Missing Sherds proposed them as living materials capable of shaping contemporary homes and modern ways of living.
