ABOUT US

G HOME is a design studio exploring the gourd as an object shaped by growth, time, and human use, reinterpreted through the lens of modern lifestyle and function. We approach design as a quiet study of materials and their ability to connect people across cultures, histories, and everyday rituals.

Our journey began with a simple yet profound observation by founder Haoying (How’Ying), who encountered familiar gourd forms during a visit to Mexico echoing those from her upbringing in China. This moment revealed something deeper: that beyond geography and tradition, the gourd exists as a shared material language, carried across continents and generations.

Historically, gourds were among the earliest natural vessels used by humans. Lightweight, durable, and organically formed, they served essential roles in daily life holding water, food, and wine, and supporting both practical and ceremonial use long before industrial materials existed. Their form evolved through necessity, shaped by human touch and environmental conditions.

At G HOME, we engage this lineage through contemporary design. Rather than reproducing historical objects, we reinterpret their essence for today’s domestic life. Our work explores how gourds can exist at the table, in the home, and within modern social rituals functioning not as decorative symbols, but as intuitive tools for everyday living.

Each object is designed to invite touch, use, and discovery. We believe that meaning emerges through interaction, and that the most enduring designs are those that quietly adapt to the people who use them.

G HOME has been exhibited internationally and sits at the intersection of material research, cultural continuity, and modern living. Our focus remains steady: to create objects that are grounded in history, shaped by function, and relevant to contemporary life.

At its core, G HOME is about quiet utility objects that feel natural in the hand, honest in material, and timeless in their purpose.
