About
G HOME is a design studio exploring gourd as an objects shaped by growth, time, and human use through the lens of modern lifestyle and function.
Founded by Haoying (How’Ying), G HOME began with a chance encounter in Mexico, where familiar gourd forms—in her upbringing in China appeared again within another cultural context. Seeing the same material surface across distant geographies reframed gourds not as a regional craft, but as a shared material language carried across continents and generations.
Historically, gourds were among humanity’s earliest domesticated plants, used as vessels for water, wine, food, and ritual. Lightweight, durable, and naturally formed, they traveled easily and adapted to local needs. Long before glass or industrial containers, gourds supported everyday acts of drinking, storing, and gathering.
G HOME works with this material history through contemporary design. Rather than reproducing traditional forms, the studio reconsiders how gourds might function today—at the table, in the home, and within social rituals. Each object is designed to engage with modern lifestyles, inviting intuitive use and discoveries that reflect the people who use them.
The studio’s work has been exhibited internationally and sits at the intersection of material research, cultural continuity, and modern domestic life. Gourds are treated not as symbols, but as working objects—capable of holding liquid, starting conversation, and bringing people together through use.
G HOME is less interested in spectacle than in quiet utility: objects that feel intuitive in the hand, grounded in history, and relevant to contemporary ways of living.
